2016 Summer Interns
HCO Summer Interns help host short-term teams and build relationships with our Haitian friends. And, many of them will even kill a spider for you! We are excited to introduce our 2016 interns: Crysta Wall, Elaine Davis, Corey Palitto, and Jonah Steele. You’ll enjoy getting to know them, especially if you are going to Haiti this summer. Either way, please pray for them as they serve with us!
If you are going to Haiti, take note of their favorite snacks. It will bless them if your team would help replenish their snacks!
Jonah Steele, Lead Intern
Hey, I’m Jonah! I’m an 18-year-old getting ready to study preaching at Lincoln Christian University in the fall. Right now, I live in Zanesville, Ohio, but I’ve lived in a few other states. I love camping, writing, photography, and tweeting sarcastic things about my daily life. I am psyched to serve as the lead intern for HCO this summer, and this will be my fourth experience in Haiti. God is doing some crazy things in my life, and I can’t wait to see what he does in these coming months! This internship will give me the opportunity to grow in my faith and in my leadership capability. I can’t wait to build new relationships and strengthen old ones.
My favorite American snack while I’m in Haiti is probably beef jerky. Gotta have my red meat.
I would totally kill a spider for a team member. I killed a rat with my foot last year! Jonah 1, wildlife 0.
This summer, I am most excited to tell stories. I get to hone my photography and my writing skills as I generate content for HCO. It’s going to be both challenging and incredibly rewarding. If you see me writing or taking pictures, ask me what I’m doing! I would love your ideas and input for stories this summer.
We are going to work hard and play hard doing Kingdom work this summer, and I can’t wait for you to join me and the other interns!
Elaine Davis
Hi, I am Elaine Davis. I grew up on my father’s farm a few miles from Hammond, IL, a small farm town with a population of 450. I am doing the internship with HCO this summer for many reasons. On my previous trips to Peredo I have developed a huge heart for Haiti and the amazing people there! I am so excited to continue building the relationships with my Haitian friends and make many more throughout the summer. I will be graduating college this May, and upon looking at my options for the future, I was a bit overwhelmed. I prayed a lot about the future and felt God calling me to step out of my comfort zone and serve as part of HCO’s summer team. I applied and sure enough was accepted. The news was exciting and nerve-wracking all at once. I am expecting God to do great things this summer in and through me!
My favorite American snack while in Haiti is either peanut butter Clif bars or Teriyaki beef jerky.
I will gladly kill a spider for a team member if it is a reasonable size. If it grows hair, it’s NOT reasonable….
I am looking forward to reconnecting with old friends, building new relationships, improving my Creole, and seeing God work in awesome ways in this amazing county. This summer I will get the chance to work with some amazing people, both returning and brand new to Haiti. I am excited to see some of those newcomers experience Haiti for the first time and fall in love with the place the same way I did 3 years ago.
For anyone coming on a trip to Peredo this summer, be open to God showing you things you never expected about yourself, others, and Himself.
