Education

From Students to Staff

The start of a new school year is exciting and refreshing. To once again be in community with classmates, teachers and staff is a blessing. Education is not only exciting but also crucial in Haiti as it provides more opportunity. For three former students of Emmanuel Christian School of Port-au-Prince in Delmas 24, that opportunity meant serving right where they were.

Wilson, Lucson and Antonio Junier finished school at Emmanuel Christian and now faithfully serve on staff. Growing from students to staff, Wilson and Antonio Junier both serve in Administration and Lucson teaches 10th, 11thand 12thgrade. We recently spoke with them to find out more about their experiences at the school.

What is your favorite thing about being on staff at Emmanuel Christian?

Wilson: Working with students on the motivation they need in their lives.

Lucson: I love learning. When I’m teaching, I’m learning new things.

Antonio Junier: My favorite thing is when I see everything going well.

What is your favorite memory about going to school at Emmanuel Christian?

Wilson: In school we were taught whatever capacity you have, by education you can become someone you didn’t expect.

Lucson: I remember members of HCO bringing me joys that motivated me to work well at school and so I was the best in my class.

Antonio Junier: I remember my classmates and me getting results from our exams.

What was your favorite subject in school?

Wilson: Physics

Lucson: Math

AntonioJunier: Chemistry

Who was your favorite teacher and what did they teach?

Wilson: My favorite teacher was Mr. Frantz. He was my Physics teacher and still teaches at the school.

Lucson: My favorite teacher was my second grade teacher Mrs. Ginior Charles Pierre who also still teaches at the school.

Antonio Junier: My favorite teacher was Mr. Estimable and he is now the Principal of the school.

Emmanuel Christian School in Port-au-Prince was started in 1989 as the first endeavor to provide quality, Biblical education to children in the Delmas 24 neighborhood and surrounding areas and is still going strong. Today, the school provides education for grades Pre-K through 13th. In the 2018-2019 school year, 500 students were enrolled and the 2019 graduating class consisted of 24 students! This school is so highly recognized in the area that is was chosen to be a testing center for over one thousand 9th and 12th graders for the government required exams!

We are so thankful for teachers and staff who pour into students each day at our six Emmanuel Christian Schools. Through the dedication and commitment of teachers such as these, opportunities are provided to youth that they may not otherwise have without education.

Thank you!! Teachers for your dedication to the students at Delmas and the other Christian schools. I am a retired elementary teacher and realize how important your mentoring as well as teaching is to your students and their communities, especially for students who perhaps otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a school. I pray for you daily as you work to instill in your students the desire to be all that God plans for them to be and to grasp the passion for lifelong learning. Every student, every class, every day! God bless YOU!
