God Provides in Emergency Surgery

It was a long night for the doctors and nurses at Peredo Community Hospital, including Dr. Allen who was on campus for a few days with RoRo and Megan to assess damage from the recent disasters. Dr. Allen is an orthopedic surgeon who sits on the board of Haitian Christian Outreach and serves on short-term medical trips to PCH.

A man, thirty years old, was brought to PCH after being hit by a car. His foot was clearly broken. A case that even in the United States would have been referred to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in trauma due to the difficulty in putting the bone back in place. In Haiti, doctors would typically have to amputate.

Amputation is not due to inexperience but the lack of resources. Specialty instruments are needed to perform surgeries. In this case, very specific orthopedic tools are needed to repair and perform surgery.

Recently, HCO received a very generous donation of orthopedic instruments and supplies and Dr. Allen was able to use these during the emergency surgery to save the young man’s foot; a man whose wife is pregnant with their first child.

Amputation would have drastically changed this man’s life and the life of his family. We praise God for His perfect timing and precise provision, which allowed Dr. Allen to be in Haiti with the exact tools needed to perform such a surgery.

Jehovah-jireh God provides!
