HCO Summer 2017

God has been faithful and gracious to bless HCO with a great summer! Many exciting things happened in Haiti and the United States! We’ve told some stories already on our blog, and you can check them out here: Summer17. We’ve put together some more highlights here:

RoRo spent seven weeks at Camp Allendale in Indiana sharing about the mission and raising almost $20,000 toward finishing the school buildings in Peredo. We are grateful for the campers’ generosity and will be raising the additional funds needed to complete this project. He shared with six different churches at camp as well as many other groups in Indiana on the weekends. One highlight was RoRo baptizing two boys on the last day of camp!

Eline and the interns hosted teams from West Virginia, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. They accomplished many different things including painting projects on campus and in Kapotyer, VBS with hundreds of kids in Peredo and Kapotyer, putting a new roof on the kitchen in Peredo, several electrical projects, and starting on the rebar windows for the second phase of the hospital.

Teach to Transform trained over 30 leaders from different churches on basic healthcare diagnoses, birthing babies, wound care, and helping babies breathe. These leaders are now better equipped to help people receive needed healthcare in their communities.

NYIT brought a group of students from their global health program to work alongside our hospital staff to give the students exposure to healthcare in Haiti and to provide encouragement and equipping for our healthcare team. Dr. Bill Blazey said, “I think all of us received more, as always, in the experience than we give. I am very grateful for all [your team] did to provide us with a week of learning and service in Peredo!”

Our churches have had a good summer! Two of our churches hosted weddings during the first weekend in August, and there are plans for a group wedding ceremony in the near future. In July, the church in Peredo held a revival that saw many encouraged in their walk with the Lord.

The hospital project has continued moving forward. Part of the overall project has included building medical staff apartments adjacent to the second phase addition. We are happy to report they are finished and ready to move into once a plumbing issue is resolved.

We have more stories to tell, but this is a start! We are grateful for God’s many kindnesses to us this summer and all that was accomplished in ministry. Heading into the fall, we are working on moving many other projects forward, including the work in Belle Anse, the solar project, receiving the dump truck out of customs, making staffing additions in Haiti, and finishing the hospital.
