More Than a Hospital: Why Medication Matters
When you walk through the doors of Peredo Community Hospital, you will find Haitian doctors and nurses caring for patients from their own communities.
They are serving people who are sick, injured, expecting a child, or simply in need of medical attention. Day after day, they use their training, experience, and compassion to care for their patients.
The medical team is there. The care is being provided. But medication remains a significant need.
Care Doesn’t End When the Doctor Finishes the Exam
Imagine coming to the hospital because you are sick, not knowing exactly what’s wrong or what you’ll need to get better. A doctor examines you, a nurse cares for you, and after some time you finally have answers about what is wrong and what needs to happen next.
But then you need medication.
For many patients, getting the medicine they need after their appointment can be difficult. The cost and availability of medications can create another barrier for people who are already struggling. That is why medication is such an important part of the work at Peredo Community Hospital.
Having a doctor there to diagnose and treat a patient is incredibly important. But that care can only go so far if a patient doesn’t have access to the medication they need to continue their treatment.
Our Haitian medical team is faithfully serving patients and meeting their needs. We want to come alongside them by helping provide the medications their patients need to continue getting better.
Behind Every Patient Is a Person
It can be easy to think about healthcare in terms of numbers—how many patients were seen, how many surgeries were performed, or how many consultations took place.
But behind every number is a person.
A mother.
A father.
A child.
A neighbor.
A friend.
Someone who has a family waiting for them at home.
Someone who is hoping to get better.
At HCO, we believe every one of those people matters. That’s why Peredo Community Hospital is about more than treating an illness. It is about caring for people with dignity and compassion. Our doctors and nurses are doing their part. We want to help provide what they need to continue doing it well.
More Than Medicine
Peredo Community Hospital is more than a building or simply a place where patients receive an examination.
It is a place where Haitian medical professionals serve their communities and where patients can receive care regardless of their ability to pay. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ through compassionate, practical care.
Hope can look different for every patient. Sometimes it looks like a doctor taking the time to listen or a nurse caring for someone through a difficult moment. Sometimes it’s a successful surgery, and sometimes, hope looks like a patient leaving the hospital with the medication they need to continue their treatment.
Every part of that care matters because every life matters.
Hope & Healing
This is why our 2026 Giving Tuesday campaign is centered around:
Hope & Healing: Because Every Life Matters
On Giving Tuesday, December 1, we are inviting our HCO family to help provide essential medications for patients at Peredo Community Hospital, as well as food for families, students, churches, and prisoners across the communities we serve.
These may seem like basic needs, but meeting them can make a lasting difference in someone’s life. A patient shouldn’t have to leave the hospital without the medication they need, and a hungry family shouldn’t have to wonder where their next meal will come from. No one should feel forgotten or left without the help they need.
When we meet these practical needs, we have an opportunity to show people that they are seen, valued, and loved—and to share the hope of Jesus with them.
Will You Help Bring Hope & Healing?
Our Haitian doctors and nurses are already serving.
They are showing up.
They are caring for patients.
They are using their gifts to serve their communities.
Now, we have an opportunity to come alongside them.
Your Giving Tuesday gift can help provide the medications that remain a significant need at Peredo Community Hospital and help our medical team continue caring for the people who walk through their doors.
Because behind every patient is a person.
Behind every need is a story.
And every life matters.
