To Everything There is a Season

by Cameron Mayhill
US Director

Our time with HCO has been full of many kinds of seasons, from the exhilaration of new churches planted, revivals and baptisms, hugs from school children, babies being born at the hospital, and the very first surgeries in Peredo — to the heart-wrenchingly difficult times of seeing our friends hurting due to earthquake and hurricane devastation, civil unrest, rampant inflation, and very hard goodbyes, like the death of baby Estonia. Many of the seasons have been hot, dusty, and full of bumpy truck rides, homemade bread, and gorgeous Haitian vistas. Some have been uncertain as we did not know how God would provide the needed resources, strength, and finances to carry on the work He had called us to do. We’ve prayed and laughed and cried and trusted more than ever any other time in our lives. It’s been good and hard and exhilarating and exhausting, sometimes all in the same day.

We have found love and been loved by our Haitian brothers and sisters and are privileged to count many of them as lifelong friends. We have also met so many wonderful people in the States who have a love for what God is doing among His people in Haiti. Many opened their hearts and homes to us as we shared in the work of the mission. We are grateful to count many friends among those with whom we have labored and served, both as partners, donors, trip participants, interns, staff, and board members.

God has been calling Jennifer and I to a new season, the details of which we will hopefully be sharing soon. In April, I let RoRo, Eline, and the Board of Directors know that we would begin a transition process to hand things off well to the next US Director and Engagement Director of Haitian Christian Outreach. We have begun the process of working with the board and staff to determine the timeline and next steps. As we have updates, we will share them with all of you. Please join us in praying for God to continue leading our lives, this transition, and the ministry of HCO. A part of our hearts will always be with RoRo, Eline, HCO, and with our friends in Haiti.

When I was in Haiti this month, RoRo and I put together this video for all of you!

Also, RoRo and the Board want to share this note with all of you:

Dear Friends and Partners of HCO,

RoRo, Eline, and the HCO Board of Directors want all of you to know that we are 100% behind Cameron and Jennifer in this transition. It is God’s time for them to make a move, and we fully support that. The Board, RoRo, Eline, Cameron, and Jennifer all share a deep mutual love and respect for each other that will continue on into the future. We want to thank Cameron and Jennifer for their time of service and all the ways they have led and guided the mission over the past 8 years. We are all praying for the best for each other through this transition time. Over the coming months, we will be working together to make a smooth and open transition so that ministry continues with excellence.

HCO is in a really healthy place. Our churches are celebrating 56 baptisms since January, and RoRo just relaunched the church in Port-au-Prince. We are grateful God’s abundant blessings through the opening of the Surgical Center and many completed surgeries, both by a US medical team as well as our Haitian surgical staff. We have grown to nearly 450 children being sponsored since last July. Our teachers and students will wrap up another successful school year in June. And our Community Development projects continue to progress, both with another water project and growth in our rabbit project. We are wrapping up our 9th team of 2019 this month, and we have 12 more teams planning to serve with us this year, including 7 teams this summer. There is much work to be done as we move forward, and we are humbled and grateful for God’s provision as we labor together to do something for Haiti that will last.

Thank you so much for your prayers, your support, and the generosity of your partnership! Please join us in praying for the Mayhills and HCO throughout this transition time! If you have any questions for the board, please feel free to contact Paul Rumbuc, Board Chairman, at [email protected].
