Seguin Feast of the Harvest 2019
“You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year.” (Deuteronomy 14:22)
“Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” (Luke 21:3)
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
Have you ever seen the Bible come alive?
That’s what happened on January 13, 2019 for the HCO Board of Directors and me on our recent trip to Seguin. Over the last several years, I have heard the stories of a celebration Sunday in the mountains of SE Haiti like no other. The Seguin Feast of the Harvest is a tradition that started very early in the history of the church after Pastor RoRo preached a series on stewardship and bringing your first fruits to the feet of Jesus!
Each year, the church gives what they can, whether it’s money or the literal fruit and vegetables from their gardens! Over 700 people crowded into and were flowing out of the church in Seguin for the celebration this year. What happened next was an epic 5-hour church service with 5 choirs, 4 offerings, a fruit and vegetable offering, and a sermon from Pastor RoRo! The church literally gave over 100 baskets of fruits and vegetables. Some were so heavy that it took two grown men to handle them!
But, what stood out most was the celebration! We saw the joy of a cheerful giver with dancing and singing for five hours! The kids, adults, young, and old…the joy was palpable…you could literally feel it on your skin and through your spirit. The most awesome part was that it was all for God. The funds went to the church for new sound equipment, and the fruits and vegetables went to those in need (first in the church and then in the community). What an amazing experience to see the joy of the Lord working in and through the people living in the mountains of Seguin!
Enjoy this video clip and photos of the celebrations!
