Next Steps In Haiti

The board and staff at Haitian Christian Outreach have been hard at work planning and preparing to bring efficient and effective relief to our neighbors and the most vulnerable in our surrounding communities. Since mid-August roadways all across the southeast from Jacmel to Peredo have been blocked by earth, mud, boulders, and debris deposited by the flooding caused by Grace. Roads are also blocked by demonstrations in the southeast due to blackouts that have continued for almost a month now.

Medical professionals on the ground have done a great job of coordinating the rescue and stage one relief efforts as best as possible with little supplies. This is the biggest need, supplies. medical supplies, food, clean water, and now building supplies for repair and rebuild of homes and lives.

RoRo, HCO’s Founder, Dr. Allen, one of HCO’s board members, and Megan, HCO’s U.S. Director, will be heading to Haiti next week to conduct ground assessments to determine the best way possible for HCO to serve from a development, medical, and relief standpoint. We will be walking through the village of Peredo to assess damage to homes in our community, and then head to the south to visit many of the outlying, smaller villages that are not receiving the help and attention of the larger cities that were hit by the earthquake

Based on this information, we will schedule medical teams and construction teams to assist in the rebuild efforts. We already had a surgical team scheduled for early October and they will helping perform cases in the Peredo Hospital or conduct medical missions in areas unable to reach the hospital because of the roads.
